Richardson

Prof. David P. Richardson

David Richardson runs a specialist consultancy in nutrition and food science, DPR Nutrition Ltd.  He holds visiting professorships at the Universities of Newcastle and Reading.  He began his teaching and research career at the University of London and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  He then worked for NestlĂ© UK Ltd, ultimately becoming Group Chief Scientist. From 1999 to 2003, Professor Richardson was an observer on the UK Expert Group on Vitamins and Minerals (EVM), which advised on maximum levels of intakes of vitamins and minerals from food supplements.  In 2003 he chaired a section of an EU Concerted Action PASSCLAIM to develop a process for the scientific substantiation of health claims.  In addition, from 2009 to 2011 he has been an author in the ILSI Europe PROCLAIM project, which is developing further guidance to substantiate health claims on foods.  Professor Richardson was also Chairman of the ILSI Europe Consumer Science Expert Group on Consumer Understanding of Health Claims and a member of the ILSI Europe/European Commission project to investigate the risk-benefit analysis of foods (BRAFO), which ran from 2007 to 2010.  In 2005, Professor Richardson was appointed a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture and Forestry.  He is also a member of Council of the Nutrition and Health Forum of the Royal Society of Medicine.  He sits on several industrial scientific advisory boards and is scientific advisor to a number of European and international organisations in the area of foods and food supplements.
