Cesar G. Fraga, Ph.D.

Professor Fraga received his doctoral degree in Chemistry from the University of Buenos Aires in 1985. He held post-doctorates at the Department of Food Science and Technology, University of California, Davis (1986-1988) and at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of California, Berkeley (1988-1990). In 1990 he was appointed Professor at the School of Pharmacy and Biochemistry, University of Buenos Aires and Researcher at the National Council for Scientific Research (CONICET), Argentina, positions that he holds today. Currently he is director of the Program on Free Radicals in Biochemistry (PRALIB), Argentina; Executive Vice-President of the Oxygen Club of California, Treasurer of the Society for Free Radical Research International, and Associate Editor of Food and Function, among other responsibilities. From 2004, Prof. Fraga is associated to the Department of Nutrition, University of California, Davis. Dr. Fraga has published more than 150 articles and given talks in more than 100 scientific conferences. He was the editor of the book “Plant phenolics and human health: biochemistry, nutrition and pharmacology” (2010). His research is centered on the biochemical mechanisms behind the effects of phytochemicals on cardiometabolic and digestive pathologies.
